استخـر های آبدرمانی نیاز به تجهیزات قوی تری جهت تصفیه آب و تهویه هوا نسبت به سایر استخـرها دارند.
مراقبت بیشتر از بالانس PH و میزان آن در آب استخر های درمانی از نکات قابل توجه خواهد بود.
در برخی بیماریها، به دلایل بهداشتی نیاز به حوضچه های فردی با آب یک بار مصرف است.
در استخرهای 8 تا 12 نفره،ابعاد مورد نیاز جهت ورزشهای هوازی حدود 60 مترمربع [10×6 متر] و برای ورزشهای بی هوازی حدود 30متر [6×5 متر] میباشد.
کف استخر آب درمانی باید با یک عمق ثابت [بدون شیب] در نظر گرفته شود.
بهتر است ارتفاع آب قابلیت تنظیم داشته باشد. به این منظور، کف استخـر، شناور و با ارتفاع متغییر در نظر گرفته میشود و یا کف توسط پل هایی با عرض 1.5 متر اجـراء میگـردد.
در حالت ایده آل، ورزش درمانی از تعلیق درمانی [حرکات چرخه باز] در عمق 1.7 متری شروع شده و با پیشرفت بیمار به آرامی عمق آب کم شده تا سرانجام به حدود 80سانتیمتر میرسد.
در نهایت، تمرینات در خشکی [تمرینات انتقـال به خشکی] انجام میپذیرد.
»» بنابراین، در ایران حـداکـثر عمـق مورد نیـاز حـدود 1.7 متر [عمق تا گـردن در تعلیـق درمـانی] است.

استخر آب درمانی میتواند کوچک، حتی یک نفره و یا یک استخـر 20 نفره و بیشتر باشد. البته در موارد عدم دسترسی به استخرهای تخصصی،
درمانگر میتواند ضمن بهره گیری از خلاقیت خود، بخشی از استخر معمولی را نیز بمنظور آبدرمانی استفاده نماید.
مراحل ورزش درمانی در آب
یک جلسه ورزش درمانی در آب می تواند چهار مرحله [چهار فـاز] داشته باشد:
مرحله گرم کردن: میزان دمای آب باید طوری باشد که با غوطه وری در آب، بدن گرم شود و نیاز به صرف زمان زیاد برای گرم کردن بدن نباشد. از همین رو در حوضهای آبدرمانی بی هوازی [انعطاف پذیری و مقاومتی]، حرارت آب بهتر است بین 33 تا 35 درجه سانتی گراد تنظیم شود.
مرحله کشش: میزان کشش بستگی به شرایط بیمار دارد. توجه: اسپاسم محافظتی و اســپاستـیـسـیـتی.
مرحله قدرت و استقامت عضلانی.
مرحله ریلکس سازی[سرد کردن]: فرد را برای بیرون آمدن از آب آماده مینمـائیـم..
اجزاء و بخش های بدنسازی در استخر یا ورزش درمانی در آب
یک جلسه ورزش درمانی در آب حدود 45 دقیقه به طول می انجامد.
در این مدت حرکات ورزشی با چهار هدف گرم کردن، بهبود انعطاف، بهبود قدرت و استقامت عضلانی، و ریلکس سازی انجام میشود.
اگر مراحل ورزش درمانی در آب از ضعف و ناتوانی شدید تا بهبودی کامل به 5 مرحله تقسیم شود، مدت زمانی که در هر مرحله به هر یک از اهداف چهارگانه اختصاص داده میشود ممکن است متفاوت باشد.
برای مثال، عموما در مرحله اول حرکات قدرتی و استقامتی هیچ سهمی ندارند. اما در مراحل بعدی به تدریج سهم آنها به 25، 37.5، 50 و 75 درصد خواهد رسید.

در واقـع هـزینۀ کـل اجـراء هـر متـرمربـع از یک استخـر، نسبت به ابعـاد بزرگـتر یا کوچکــتر از آن قـابل تـعـمیـم نمـیباشـد..
بطور مثال: چنانچه هزینه تقریبی اجراء از گودبرداری تا مرحله بهره برداری کامـل از یک استخر شنا بهمراه نصب تاسیسات تصفیه و سرامیک؛ با ابعاد 6 * 3 متـر و عمق میانگین 1.7 متر، معـادل 200 میلیون تومان در نظـر گـرفته شود[فـرض]
